The introduction of BSON starts with Nepal Botanical Society which was founded in 1981 and registered in 2006, but the society was not active since a long time. Many botanists working at different institutions were interested to contribute for an active society. Respecting to their interest, a meeting was held at Central Department of Botany, Tribhuvan University on August 31, 2017 (Bhadra 15, 2074) in presence of former executive members of Nepal Botanical Society and formed an ad hoc committee coordinated by Prof. Mohan Siwakoti to renew the society but due to technical difficulty it was decided to form a new society instead of renew it. A seven membered ad hoc committee formed again to take the responsibility of preparation of constitution of society, registration and election on May 23, 2018 (Jestha 9, 2075 BS). The committee was constituted by Prof. Dr. Mohan Siwakoti, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Rai, Dr. Hari Prasad Aryal, Dr. Narayan Prasad Ghimire, Dr. Bhuvan Keshar Sharma, Dr. Anjana Giri and Mr. Dipak Lamichhane. The Botanical Society of Nepal (BSON) registered in August 18, 2018 (Sharwan 12, 2075 BS) as per the rules and regulations of the Government of Nepal.  The first election of the Botanical Society of Nepal was held on November, 29, 2018 (Mangsir 13, 2075 BS), an 11 membered full flagged executive committee of the society has unanimously elected by this election.
